Buddhism is the predominant religion in Sikkim, with many fine old temples embellished with religious paintings and statues of the Buddha's various incarnations.
Monasteries form an integral part of Sikkim. There is a plethora of monasteries in Sikkim. In fact there are almost nearly 200 monasteries or Gompas in the state.
